Testimonial by Jill Stevens from Whitby Doctors
“We were looking for an accountant that understands what type of business we operate, has an understanding of how we operate in the world and what we are trying to provide to our patients. Also, how we can fit that into the realm of running a business, i.e. how to marry up what we provide with how we fund it. We enjoy working with Love to Grow as they have an overview of all of that and work very closely with us. We haven’t had accountants before that have such a presence with us, you’re visionary.”
– Jill Stevens, Director, Whitby Doctors Limited
- What do you look for in an accountant?
An accountant that understands what type of business we operate, has an understanding of how we operate in the world and what we are trying to provide to our patients. Also, how we can fit that in to the realm of running a business, i.e. how to marry up what we provide with how we fund it.We enjoy working with Love to Grow as they have an overview of all of that and work very closely with us. This means we do the shop floor stuff which we are good at, then have a level that can do all the accounts and financial statements using Xero. We really need a professional accountant to oversee the accounting, guide us and protect us, know the jargon, legislation etc. Love to Grow share our vision of what we are trying to achieve, which is really valuable for us and we feel like there is someone we deal with in the financial world who is walking that road with us. It’s really important to us to provide a good service to our patients and to employ qualified and experienced staff and financially this is a tightrope we walk to get that balance right.
- How has Love to Grow helped you in your practice?
Love to Grow has definitely helped us a lot. We undertook a merger – Love to Grow made that work for us. We wouldn’t have known if it was a sensible move or not, as that’s not in our area of expertise to forecast. We’ve always been very clear that we do what we do well and then we employ people around us that do the rest. It would be a bit like me giving you an ultrasound report and saying; “here is the report on your liver, I want you to read the report and let me know if there is anything there of significance!” We need to know someone else is looking at the detail in their area of expertise.
- What issues did Love to Grow assist you with when you were undergoing a merger?
The vision, walking with us on that vision. Being able to tell us if was a good idea or a dumb idea – we were excited. In our professional world we had a lot of motivation to merge. We needed to know in our financial world that it was a good idea from that perspective as well.
- Why would you recommend Love to Grow to another medical/health care practice?
The difference that Love to Grow brings is your presence. We haven’t had accountants before that have such a presence with us, you’re visionary. We like the fact that you look at future planning, good ideas, don’t feel we have to fit in your constraints; you are fitting in with our vision. You’re flexible – an example of this is Kirsten has been to us and sat with our new practice manager to go through Xero training.Love to Grow is very approachable. Overarching this is Trish’s expertise. We feel very covered, very supported at all the levels of professional accountancy services.
